HOW ECOSTAMPS WORKS: EDITORS
Step 1: Open an Account
You're an editor and you want to (a) streamline the submission and review process; (b) generate revenues for your organization; (c) provide substantive feedback on submissions with a few simple clicks of a button; and (d) become eligible for an Ecostamps Literary Market Grant for $1,000:
Step 2: Receive Welcome Email and Instructions
Within 24 hours of registration, you will receive an email from Ecostamps with instructions for accessing the Editors Console and the submission form for your organization.
Step 3: Login and Flip the Switch!
Log into the Console, review your submission form, and when you're ready to start receiving submissions through Ecostamps, activate the form and add the "Submit Now!" button to your organization's web site. That's it.
HOW ECOSTAMPS WORKS: WRITERS
Writers visit a market's web site, click the "Submit Now!" button, and log in or open an Ecostamps for Writers account.
Once logged in, the writer selects a category or contest, selects either the Basic or Enhanced submission option, and copies-and-pastes the submission into the form.
Submissions are processed through secure transmissions with 128-bit encryption.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Ecostamps is FREE for editors and writers.
Basic submissions are FREE.
Enhanced submissions cost $4, or about as much as paper, printing, envelopes, and postage.
The benefits of Enhanced submissions?
  • Substantive feedback from editors through Ecostamps Assessments.
  • Each completed Assessment earns the market $1 to help defray operating costs and pay authors for their work.
  • Enhanced submissions may be used to nominate an author for the annual Ecostamps Writer Fellowship for $2,500.
  • The market that nominated the author selected to receive the Fellowship will receive an Ecostamps Literary Market Grant for $1,000.
  • Priority review and the ability to edit the submission at any time prior to review.
  • Enhanced market profiles with real-time submission statistics.
  • Submission enclosures such as a bio, cover letter, and writing credits.
Editors may opt to offer only Basic or Enhanced submissions or they may offer authors to the opportunity to select a submission option. One of our primary objectives is to put as much flexibility as possible in the hands of editors and authors.
MOST IMPORTANTLY
Ecostamps enhances the symbiotic relationship between writers and editors and helps organizations that currently accept submissions only through standard post to capture dollars that would otherwise fill the coffers of the U.S. Postal Service.
Literary magazines need funds to operate. Most markets are labors-of-love, run on shoe-string budgets, and largely supported by volunteers, grants, donations, and all too often dollars from editors' pockets.
Constructive feedback is essential to writers' development. Most editors would love to provide feedback on submissions but cannot. With a job or school and family and friends and many other commitments and obligations, it's barely possible to open, sort, and read all of the submissions received and respond to status inquiries, let alone find the time to provide substantive feedback.
Ecostamps...
  • creates time for editors by eliminating the administrative dross of the review process,
  • puts tools in the hands of editors to easily provide substantive feedback to writers, and
  • provides an important financial incentive to use the tools.
With online submissions, Ecostamps eliminates the mailbags, the piles and piles of paper, the SASEs, the spam filters, and viruses.
Ecostamps Assessments provide an easy-to-use and exceptionally efficient way to provide constructive criticism to authors.
For no more than the cost of paper, envelopes, printing, and postage for a typical short story submission, Ecostamps offers writers...
  • feedback directly from editors,
  • the opportunity to be paid when published,
  • the flexibility of real-time editing, and
  • an opportunity to be awarded an Ecostamps Writer Fellowship for $2,500.
Ecostamps creates a win-win for editors and authors.
